ROBIN HOOD VALIANTLY BATTLES THE CREDIT CRUNCH!! The Swan Theatre’s pantomime this year, Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, looks set to buck the trend of doom and gloom as ticket sales rocket with a month to go until the start of the run. Early sales of this year’s traditional family pantomime at the Swan Theatre have exceeded expectations at Worcester Live as people call to book their pantomime tickets for Christmas. Many of the early performances are already sold out with bookings from local schools, and even the performances over the Christmas Holidays are starting to fill up. There are a few theories as to why the pantomime is doing so well, when ticket sales for other events and shows are down with people reluctant to spend their money on going out in these tough times. Chief Executive of Worcester Live, Chris Jaeger, who has co-written the panto, says, “Perhaps people are looking more towards their local theatres this Christmas for good-value, traditional family pantomime, rather than the expensive options of glitzy shows in the bigger cities. We’ve kept our ticket prices reasonable by using talented professional actors, and not paying exorbitant prices for over-rated B-list Celebrities! What audiences are getting at the Swan this year is great quality panto, appropriate for everyone – traditional family fun, which is what Christmas is all about” The Swan Theatre is also one of only two professional theatres in England doing the Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood story, and this could be another winning stroke. With the recent TV series and similar adventure shows, Robin’s profile has been raised in recent years – making it a more exciting prospect for potential audiences. Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood starts on Tuesday the 9th December and runs until Sunday the 4th January. Tickets are priced from £8.95 to £14.95 and are available from the Worcester Live Box Office at Huntingdon Hall, Crowngate or via 01905 611427.
