worcesterfestivallogo.jpg MUCH NEEDED SUPPORT FOR THE WORCESTER FESTIVAL 2008 Arts Council England says Yes to Street Theatre!   The 2008 Worcester Festival has received a terrific boost with news that the Arts Council has awarded the Festival £5,000. The grant is to be used towards the funding of Street Theatre during the festival, which includes live marching bands, dancing, Chinese Dragon dance displays, comedy sketches and of course the City’s favourite Festival Mascot, Percy the Peacock – who will be shaking his tail feathers around the city for the whole duration of the festival.

All these events are free of charge, which is one of the great things about the Worcester Festival – everyone can enjoy it – and this makes the Arts Council Funding even more important.

Festival Director Chris Jaeger said ‘ We are absolutely thrilled that the Arts Council has agreed to support the Street Theatre side of the Festival. These free events add so much to the Festival’s fun atmosphere and everyone can enjoy street performances.
It’s reassuring to know that there is support for this kind of event. The Worcester Festival runs from Saturday 2nd August to Bank Holiday Monday 25th August.

Hundreds of events are taking place across the City at over 50 venues over the 3 weeks. With so much crammed into 3 weeks there’s not going to be a dull moment. Make sure you get hold of a copy of the programme and get planning! For more information you can visit the Festival website www.worcesterfestival.co.uk and download a copy of the programme or ring the Box Office on 01905 611427.

The Worcester Festival programme is also available Tourism Information Centres, shops, pubs and cafes across the city
.

Street theatre is funded by Arts Council England, the national development agency for the arts through its Grants for the Arts programme for individuals and organisations
